"...And Batting Fifth, Magic Johnson"

The LA Dodgers have are 32-19, the best mark in all of baseball. Yet somehow their lineup card on Thursday read like so:

CF Elian Herrera
C A.J. Ellis
LF Bobby Abreu
RF Andre Ethier
2B Jerry Hairston Jr.
3B Adam Kennedy
1B Scott Van Slyke
SS Dee Gordon
P Chad Billingsley

That's unfathomably bad. Minnesota Twins-bad. Maybe Billingsley should be hitting sixth. And yet this is the team with the best record in baseball. Not even the Rangers have more wins, and their lineup features actual major league hitters.

The good news for people who like things that make sense: normalcy might be returning to LA. Predictably, that punchless Dodgers lineup couldn't beat Zack Greinke, falling to the Brewers 6-2. That was their fourth consecutive defeat, all of which came at home. And Matt Kemp and Ted Lilly just hit the DL. It's very possible that, much like the Orioles, the Dodgers are about to finally endure the regression we've all been waiting for.

Or maybe Jerry Hairston Jr. will keep hitting .366 and A.J. Ellis will keep walking more than Miguel Cabrera.
